Street Theatre

NATURE
These tools are used as part of widescale awareness programmes and as stand alone educational projects. Street Theatre has proved to be extremely effective tool when transferring messages to a target audience. Some of the advantages are:

  • Allows for control of messages (no distortion of the facts)
  • Target audience can easily relate to the characters and the situations
  • Comedy is used to tackle issues people feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about
  • Allows the audience to be involved and gets their full attention (i.e. an interactive approach)
  • Handout of relevant leaflets can provide additional information

A question and answer session follows the street theatre. Prizes are given to members of the audience who answer questions correctly. This post-performance element:

  • Allows an immediate assessment of the information transferred
  • The excitement of winning is associated with the programme thus ensuring a high retention of the message.
